Our Story

A Food Truck Dream That Became Three Virginia Taquerias

How It Started

La Tingeria opened its doors in 2013, born from a food truck that rolled through Northern Virginia serving antojitos mexicanos — the elotes, pambazos, and tacos of Mexico's street stalls — to a region hungry for the real thing. That truck built a following one order at a time, and eventually put down roots at 626 S Washington St in Falls Church, where it's operated as a counter-service taqueria ever since. Since then, we've grown to Alexandria and Spotsylvania (Fredericksburg), bringing the same handmade menu to more of Virginia.

Why We Went Halal

During the pandemic, La Tingeria made a decision that would define the restaurant: it became fully Halal. For the Muslim families of Northern Virginia, that meant finally being able to order birria, al pastor, and tinga without compromise. For everyone else, it meant the same bold, authentic Mexican flavor they already loved — made with meat sourced and prepared to Halal standards, no exceptions. It's a detail some restaurants treat as a footnote. Here, it's the whole point.

What We're Known For

Ask any regular and you'll hear the same names: the birria tacos, dipped and griddled, served alongside a consommé so rich people order extra just to drink it. The Torta La Chingona, stacked with carne asada and chilaquiles. And Taco Tuesday — a standing tradition of $2 tacos that turns a Tuesday into an event. Recognition has followed too: La Tingeria has been named to Washingtonian's "100 Very Best Restaurants" list, and our Falls Church location has been featured in local "Taco Town" coverage of the region's best tacos.

The Kitchen Philosophy

We keep the menu short on purpose. Tacos, tortas, quesadillas, sopes, tostadas — a tight lineup executed with care, rather than a long menu executed carelessly. Tortillas, salsas, and consommé are made in-house at every location. Portions are generous. Prices stay fair, even on a $2 Taco Tuesday.

Three Neighborhoods, One Standard

Falls Church, Alexandria, and Spotsylvania each have their own feel, but the same rule applies everywhere: handmade tortillas, a 100% Halal kitchen, and counter service built for a quick, satisfying meal — grab a torta for lunch, bring the family for weekend tacos, or stop by for a community event (yes, we've hosted a trunk-or-treat at Falls Church). Takeout and delivery keep the counter moving fast, and patio seating is available at select locations for anyone who wants to slow down and enjoy the meal in the moment.
